Japan – worldwide ban on entry

From Dec. 28, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2021, there will be a worldwide ban on entry to Japan for foreign nationals. This development includes the following residence/visa titles: temporary business visas (up to 90 days), working holiday visas and long-term visas (visas with Certificate of Eligibility).

In principle, cross-border travelers with valid effective visa will be permitted to enter Japan. This does not apply to travelers who have been, among other countries, 14 days before in United Kingdom, the Republic of South Africa and the Schengen Area (for example Germany). In such cases, entry is only possible with special exceptions. Travelers who can re-enter Japan with an valid visa only need a passport, a residence card and a valid re-entry permit.

Whether the worldwide ban on entry to Japan after 31.12.2021 still has its validity, is not yet determined. The current situation shows us, that there shortly changes are possible. We will be happy to keep you up to date on this. You are welcome to contact us at any time. We advise you in all questions of entry requirements worldwide.
